Positive Interventions for Students
By Angelica Ponce-Villeda
Students have been curious about PBIS. Assistant principal, Mrs. Patrice Dorian explained what is PBIS and why we need it. “PBIS stands for positive, behavior, interventions, and support. We need PBIS in school because we want to reward students who are doing the right thing. Also, it helps encourage students who aren’t doing the right thing, to do the right thing,” stated Mrs. Patrice Dorian.
Mrs. Patrice Dorian said, “Pictures are worth thousands of words, they’re fun. Students also enjoy a video more than listening to a teacher speak to them for a long time.”
PBIS meets around once every 2-3 weeks. Students and staff decide on ways to do things in a positive way. They create things in a positive way to encourage students who aren’t doing the right thing to do the right thing, in a positive way.
Our Algebra teacher, Joseph Jewett, is also on the PBIS team. “We want to encourage students to do the right thing because, teachers focus more on the bad students. The good students don’t get much attention, and we don’t want the good students to feel left out,” said Mr. Jewett. He also said, “Teachers haven’t been giving out Eagle Bucks, because they haven’t seen a good behavior or students doing positive things.”
Throughout the year there will be more positive interventions from the PBIS team.
