The KCK Children's Mariachi Ensemble is a program in the USD 500 District, that offers violinists, guitarists, vihuela, guitarron, and trumpet players. The opportunity to play traditional Mariachi music and perform in concerts around the Kansas City area. Practice is every Tuesday from 4:30-6:00 at Central Middle school, (as of 2018). Anybody in the district that has prior experience in any type of instrument,(or has experience in the instruments already listed) can participate in the Mariachi ensemble from as early as 5th grade. But the majority of students start in the 7th grade. The Mariachi ensemble has a uniform that consists of a white button-up shirt, Black pants, and Black shoes, with a red accessory. Mariachi is a very fun way to learn how to play a new genre of music. It takes lots of determination and practice to be able to perform in the concerts. A member of the band will also need confidence so that they can do their best.
