Band 2018-2019
By Efren Garnica and Anastasia Kellogg
Our 6th grade band has had a good start to the year. Our band teacher Ms. Desotel is really helpful and kind, There are a variety of instruments from woodwind to brass. The brass instrument are French, horn, tuba, trumpet, and baritone. The woodwinds are clarinet, flute, saxophones. There are also percussion instruments but we are not able to play percussion until second semester.
Most band players say that their instrument is easier than others but all of them are difficult in their own ways to certain people. Maybe it would be easy to switch from instrument to instrument.
One of our students, Nicolas, chose to play in band because he wanted to carry on his family tradition. When he was 5 years old he learned to play an instrument to carry on his family's tradition. He would like to go everywhere in the future to play his instrument.
Another student, Keith Turner, plays the trombone because he thinks it is a fun instrument. Keith also says his instrument is easy because he doesn’t have to deal with keys and valves, so slides are easier.
In conclusion, EMS 6th grade band is a very good way to explore new forms of music, and it gives many opportunities to aspiring band artists.
